Cookie Monster Sings Tom Waits!

23 08 2011

It finally had to happen…somebody put together a video of Sesame Street’s lovable Cookie Monster, synched up to appear to be singing a song (“God’s Away on Business”) by the gravelly-voiced singer Tom Waits.  And the result is pure genius–not to mention hilarious! Check it out here:

By the way, the word on the street is that Waits is coming out with a new album in October.  We can’t wait…

Even More Nice Music for You…Agent Ribbons!

31 05 2011

Once again, we have a great music video for you!  This one’s a new video from that dynamic duo, Agent Ribbons – formerly of Sacramento, now living in Austin – of a song called “That’s Not Edgar’s Heart.”  Enjoy!

Incidentally, you can buy this song and other music from Agent Ribbons at their website:  Their new album, “Chateau Crone,” is also available on iTunes – or, of course, at your favorite music store.  (If they don’t have it, ask for it!)

Some Nice Music for You

15 05 2011

Sorry it’s been a while since we’ve posted something new. The Editor (that’s me) has been really lazy lately about keeping abreast of some of the fun events happening here in Sacramento. Plus I still need to get some new photos uploaded to share with all of you. By the way, I hope you’re all holding up in this unseasonably chilly and wet patch here in the middle of May.

In the meantime, I thought I’d share with you the following, a very nice piece of music I discovered a few years ago in the video game “Civilization IV.” It’s called “The Chairman Dances,” by modern classical composer John Adams. I hope you enjoy it.

Happy Earth Day (one day late)!

Just a little “blast from the past” to remind us all (myself included) to take better care of the Earth…after all, this planet is the only home we’ve got!

Trash Film Orgy to Present “Planet of the Vampire Women” April 30

5 04 2011

Sacramento’s late-night horror/cult/exploitation movie schlockmeisters are at it again!  Planet of the Vampire Women, the second film produced by local cult, horror and exploitation film presenters, the Trash Film Orgy, will finally be unleashed on the public on Saturday, April 30 at 9:00 p.m. (doors open at 8:00) at the Crest Theatre, located at 1013 K Street in downtown Sacramento.

The local magazine Midtown Monthly had an excellent article in this month’s issue about the movie and its creators, husband-and-wife team Darin Wood and Christy Savage, and how they got a “$50,000 movie done for $25,000.”  (Plus there are interesting details about things like creating different kinds of fake blood.)

If “midnight” exploitation and horror movies are your thing…if blood, vampires, and somewhat gratuitous nudity don’t bother you…and especially if you like to support local filmmakers here in Sacramento who are making something strange and out-of-the-ordinary…then Planet of the Vampire Women may be just what you’re looking for.

In the Spirit of Foolishness…

1 04 2011

In the spirit of the foolishness of April Fool’s Day, we’d like to share this entertaining video:  A classic Nike commercial (circa 2002) of an English football “streaker,” and the amused comments of the sportscasters covering the game.  Enjoy!
